When we talk about pop art, names like Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein to mind. But let us look at one of the less well -known, but still fascinating representatives of this art movement: Steffen Kindt .
This German artist has managed to take over the genre of pop art and put on his own distinctive stamp. With his lascivious works and often provocative poses of his female portrait protagonists, he illuminates the colorful surface of our erotized consumer society without losing too much in deeper messages.
Young people find my art just great. And that's why I always put a few prints that are affordable for the youth. "
The artist, born in Berlin and has been living in Scandinavia for over 40 years, laughed at the picture. In fact, art prints and fine art posters from 35 euros can be found in the art shop of the artist.
A look at Steffen Kindt's career
Steffen Kindt was born in Berlin and developed a strong interest in art early on. He financed his art studies through his work as a seter at the Springer-Verlag and as a layouter for the "St. Pauli Nachrichten" .
Steffen Kindt, born in Berlin, completed his training at the art school in Hamburg. After eight semesters, he then gained experience as an art director in international advertising agencies before moving to Copenhagen in the 1970s.
There he shaped the Danish advertising landscape and visually implemented a variety of advertising campaigns over several years - both at national and international level. With the advent of digitization, he decided to further deepen his visual skills and started painting.
In 1989 he proudly presented his first public exhibition. numerous exhibitions in Scandinavia, Germany, England, France and the Netherlands. The highlights included exhibitions in Århus, Helsingborg, Essen and London as well as participation in international art fairs in Brașov and Berlin.
His roots in European art history and its influences from American pop culture still shape his works.
Feature in the Bild newspaper
One of the most impressive works by Kindt is his series, with which the extensive image newspaper has already dealt with. This is one of the most edited newspapers in Germany, which is often criticized because of its lurid reporting and strikingly open headlines. Kindt might use Contact Us E from his time at the Axel Springer-Verlag to draw the medium of itself.
With his blonde wife "Wicki" as a muse, he combined the striking and frivolous in his own pin-up style , which reminds of the most important pop art artist reminiscent- Mel Ramos .

In his work, he combines typical stylistic devices of pop art, such as strong colors and clear lines, with the striking headlines, provocative statements and striking pictures of the BILD newspaper. The resulting works are not only a sensual feast for the eyes, but also stimulate thought, taking into account the work titles.
For example, you ask the question: How do media affect our perception of reality?
Techniques and materials
A special feature of Kindt's work is its experimental use of techniques and materials. Traditional methods such as the use of raster points , known from pointillism , are supplemented by modern printing techniques and digital processing.
This innovative approach enables him to implement his artistic visions with the greatest possible precision and expressiveness.
Pin-up girls-homage to the zest for life of the sixties
In view of the striking stylistic contrast between Mel Ramos and Steffen Kindt, one could ask yourself whether a direct comparison of the two pop art representatives makes sense at all. What is certain, however, is that the choice of motif of the pin-up girls from Kindt strongly reminds of series of pictures of the US artist.
Mel Ramos was undoubtedly an outstanding artist, famous for his provocative representations of pin-up girls and lascivious pop culture. His works of art were characterized by lively choice of colors, revealing aesthetics and an ironic subtext. They celebrated the beauty of the female body in a playful way.
In line with it, Kindt draws inspiration from Ramos' Oeuvre and the era in which he celebrated his heyday, and expresses this in his own works. Kindt strives to revive the spiritual character and the flair of the time in which Mel Ramos brought his art to the screen.
With his “pin-up girls”, Kindt pays respect for this era and strives to capture their carelessness and lust for life.
