The designers: inside and their new interpretations of the classics
Stefan Scholten | Charles and Ray Eames

Stefan Scholten has become one of the defining voices of Dutch design since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1995. He is known for his reductionist style, which he combines with a unique use of color.
For the exhibition and auction "Hommage" he redesigned the lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames. In the first step, the Stefan Scholten studio analyzed every single element of iconic design.

This reductionist approach led to the fact that stool and ottoman were connected in the contemporary interpretation and a sculptural piece was created with the original ergonomic silhouette and carefully coordinated proportions. Wood is the central element of this new interpretation, which frees the chair from its padding and metal parts in order to give it an authentic California look.
Grace of Glaze | Émile Gallé
Simone Doesburg is a Dutch ceramic and designer based in Utrecht. With her porcelain harness Grace of Glaze, she defines the ordinary and transforms everyday moments into exceptional representations of beauty.

For the joint auction of Catawiki and Masterly, she made an individually colored dishes based on a vase from Emile Gallé. Inspired by the color palette of the vase, the handmade ceramic of Simone Doesburg shows combinations of deep winter blue and warm summer tones.
Laurène Guarneri | Pierre Paulin
The designer Laurène Guarneri is a graduate of the Beaux Arts de Paris-Cergy and lives in Paris. She works with glass and Mirrors to capture the fleeting, poetic moments of everyday life.
Laurène Guarneri was inspired for the exhibition "Hommage" by Pierre Paulin's armchair "Orange Slice". In her reinterpretation, she converted the warm colors and the repeating forms of the armchair into the Mirrors "Double Jaune" .
Through a dynamic interplay of reflections and transparencies, the designer gave the Mirrors a new depth dimension through which the impression arises that the shapes would go into each other and loosen from each other.
Atelier Ferraro | Émile Gallé

After studying architecture in Italy and Greece, Emanuele Ferraro to Germany, where he worked with a series of renowned architectural offices and opened his own design studio in 2019.
In the auction and exhibition "Hommage" Emanuele Ferraro is represented with an object from his series "Ephemeral Décor" , with which he reinterprets objects by Émile Gallé. Emanuele Ferraro used for the delicate patterns real flowers to transfer their nature to the glass. Colors and floral elements go through a transformative process of abstraction and reduction.

Each vase is unique, which is produced with extreme precision and the unique craftsmanship of the Kamee technology.
Ricardo Parmiciano Borgström and Giorgia Farina | Bhulls

The partners Ricardo Parmiciano Borgström and Giorgia Farina are behind the design studio bhulls. Together they develop unconventional pieces that mend the boundaries between art and design. With an experimental approach, you explore the interaction of aesthetics and functionality to create sculptural collectibles.
Bhulls attaches importance to simplicity in the design and production. A modern reinterpretation of Sapper's iconic plico folding car is the "Replico" : a low table that captures the elegant shape of the original design. The aesthetic and functional features of the folding car are emphasized and presented in a timeless form.

The table is made entirely of aluminum and is composed of three folded metal plates and four connecting details. The design of the black paint exudes the design of soberness and elegance, whereby red -painted details are reminiscent of sappers characteristic style. The focus is on a minimalist approach with little waste.
Nick and Sophie Jansen | Vonn Jansen

The aspiring design brand Vonn Jansen, led by the Dutch siblings Nick and Sophie Jansen, has developed into a renowned furniture brand. The company combines modern design with traditional craftsmanship.
For the exhibition "Hommage", Sophie Jansen was inspired by the side tables of Gianfranco Frattini and one of her own characteristic designs, the "Trinity Dining Table" . She revised the square shapes and extraordinary veneers into a high -quality version of the design.

Aleksandra Gaca
The designer Aleksandra Gaca designs innovative, woven textiles at the interface of art, design and architecture. It combines the traditional weaver trade with the latest technology and is known for its work with three-dimensional textiles. Gaca designs textiles that address all the senses through the visual, tactile and acoustic qualities of their designs.
On the occasion of the cooperation between Catawiki and Masterly for the Milan Design Week 2024, GACA designed a limited set of their characteristic "Bloko" pillow. Inspired by the shape of Zaha Hadid's vases, a refined diagonal color gradient flows over the bold "Bloko" graphics. The pillows are part of the subsequent auction at Catawiki.
Antonio Barone
Antonio Barone studied industrial design at the Politecnico di Milano and worked in Italy and the Netherlands. It sees objects as a system of individually convertable individual parts that can change our everyday experience through ordinary materials.
His draft for the exhibition "Hommage" was inspired by Isamu Noguchi's sofa "Freeform" . His interpretation is a compilation of organic, formable pillows that have been placed over a grid.
Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink | Aptum
Aptum brings tension and magic into the room with light installations. Your designs can be realized in unlimited configurations for each living and working environment and show the diverse facets of lighting: from colorful and chaotic to sober and geometric.
