An eventful life in pictures
Frida Kahlo is by far the best -known painter Mexico, if not Latin America. The urgent, small -format images articulate Frida Kahlos physical and mental suffering, their grief and tragedy. Her self -portraits are the most honest and truthful expression of what she feels, she writes in 1939.
"They thought I was a surrealist, but I wasn't. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality." (Frida Kahlo)
Frida Kahlo was certainly one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th century. Her life story is full of drama, tragedy and overwhelming zest for life.
The famous self -portraits of Frida Kahlo reflect their profound feelings. Her morphinism and the associated pain strongly contributed to seeing herself as a drawn person, what she tried to present in her paintings. One of her most famous pictures is the self -portrait "The two Fridas" (1939) . It shows Frida Kahlo as a twin girl with two different faces - a beautiful and a tortured.
The artistic source of inspiration for Frida Kahlo is next to herself, the Mexican folklore with its inexhaustible colors and the elements of nature. This creates Frida Kahlo as an icon-the traditional Mexican Tehuana costume becomes your trademark and Frida Kahlo itself the symbol of her time.
Kahlo died of pulmonary tuberculosis in early July 1954 at the age of only 47. It left a great estate of works, the popularity of which continues to this day and significantly influenced many famous artists. Much about Frida Kahllos is still the subject of many interpretations and speculations - which is not surprising due to the influence that she had on the art scene.
