If you rush through the television stations in the evening, especially in the political debate in the course of the increased immigration and the latest exhaust gas scandals, two major topics are repeatedly in the focus of the news programs, talk shows and TV magazines: integration and environment .
Both areas are central components for the success of our society and elementary for a peaceful and healthy (together) life. Paul Riedel from Brazil also recognized this early in his life and, in addition to the artistic work, is devoted to social, cultural and environmentally protecting projects.
In his adopted home of Münchnen, for example, he may have become known to the public primarily as a Protestant and fighter against the deforestation of older trees in the city.
So let's take a closer look at this multi -layered representative of the Munich art scene.
Paul Riedel - childhood and youth
Paulo Sergio Riedel was born on May 27, 1960 in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo. As an illegitimate child, he initially grew up with an Afro-Brazilian family and was later integrated into his German-Italian family.
If this was not enough, he became aware of his sexual identity and orientation towards his own gender at the age of ten and had to confront himself very early in his life with the dogmas of the Catholic Church in his life. His homosexuality also led to conflicts within his family, which caused him to separate from her early.

If you look at these circumstances that young Paul Riedel had to face very early in his life, it quickly becomes clear that he had to learn quickly to take responsibility for his life. Here the foundation for his later life as a passionate activist and advocate of an open and tolerant society will also have been laid.
Training and professional career
Anyone who now assumes that Paul Riedel has enjoyed classic training in art is wrong. At the age of fifteen, he began his first professional activity in the Ministry of Telecommunications of Sao Paulo , in whose service he was until 1984. As part of this job, he was funded and initially started a career in information technology .
He landed at MTU in Munich via a Ferrostal project and finally switched to BMW after four years. Shortly afterwards he founded his own IT company, which he headed as managing director until 2010.
His career in the IT industry brought him to New York, Boston, Hong Kong and many other metropolises worldwide.
Career as an artist
In parallel to his professional activity in IT, Paul Riedel has worked as a freelance artist since 1978 . His best -known works include portraits from Broadway stars such as Julie Wilson. It was painted in his New York studio. Big Donor Gala opened from this series of three pictures in 1998.
And so he still works as a freelance artist and as an author of various psychodramas, short stories and non -fiction. In 2010 he ended his work in IT and has been fully devoted to his art and a number of social engagements since then.
As a visual artist, he primarily devotes himself to watercolor painting and working with chalk . His most popular motifs include flowers, churches, portraits, men and acts and the intense colors are characteristic of his works.
Here are three works from the watercolor series "Colloured Hat" :

Life as an activist and social commitment
Perhaps characterized by his childhood and youth, Paul Riedel is committed to various social projects and always took action as an activist and Protestant. Above all, from 1977 he joined the recognition of homosexuals in his country of birth in Brazil and often took part in demonstrations.
Among other things, he was there at the first demo in 1978 against the later president of Brazil, Lula Inacio da Silva. He also campaigned against the pseudo-communists and was one of the first to defend themselves against the oppression of the people and also homosexuals through homophobic politicians.
In Germany, he continued his activities in this area almost unchecked and is now an active member of the Greens in Munich. In addition to his public resistance to the deforestation of older trees in the urban area of the Bavaria metropolis, he led the Protest Action Pro-Isar, which aimed to avoid garbage on the Isar bank in Munich. He is also committed to the environment and animal welfare.
His commitment to the culture is shown in the context of his voluntary work for Munich museums and Pinakotheken, through the halls of which he leads free of charge a month and responds to numerous topics on visual art and antiquity. Once a month, he also offers free lessons in the painting techniques of watercolor, chalk and drawing in his studio.
Practical his entire life is throughout a passionate and tireless effort for an open, peaceful and tolerant society in which culture takes up an important space. As a person with a migration background, he is particularly important to care and impart German culture.
