About the artist:
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is considered one of the most important Austrian painters of symbolism and as a formative figure of the Vienna Secession, an influential movement of Art Nouveau. Born in modest conditions, he received his artistic training at the renowned Viennese school school for art and industry.
At the beginning of his career, he was controversial because of his erotic, shaped representations, but when the Vienna Secession was founded, Klimt rejected the common conventions and finally established himself as an innovative artist.
His characteristic style impresses with a harmonious connection between symbolism, eroticism and exquisite decorativity, whereby the focus is often on the representation of women and a deep sense of colors. Klimt recorded inspiration at Jan Toorop and in turn shaped important artists such as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka.
