Image "Peace Dust" (1961), framed
Picasso's poster motif for an international peace congress in Stockholm.
In the humorous animal drawings by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) we learn the playful, little -known sign of the artist from Spain. Sometimes explicitly filigree drawn with just one line, symbolical these supposedly simple drawings are the genius of the master.
" Painting is stronger than me; it forces me to do what it wants, " the cubist once said.
His choice of a pigeon as a motif, a graceful but modest bird to present something as hopeful and significant as the world peace was probably a well thought -out decision. The bird reminds us of ideas of freedom and endless possibilities.
Picasso's graphic line drawing became one of the most famous peace symbols in the world. Picasso's first La Colombe (Taube) from 1949 is still associated as an emblem for the World Peace Council. The pigeon influenced the artist so much that he called his daughter Paloma, the Spanish word for pigeon.
